Comprehensive Eye Exams

During a comprehensive eye exam, we thoroughly assess your vision, but we also evaluate your internal and external ocular health. We routinely test for cataracts, glaucoma, and many abnormalities of the retina including macular degeneration. We can also test pupil reflexes, depth perception, color vision and peripheral vision. Many systemic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes or multiple sclerosis can show up in the eye first. No matter the type of diabetes you have, you should have yearly dilated eye exams.

Advances in ocular diagnostic technology has really helped our ability to diagnose and treat eye diseases. Peripheral Visual Field Analyzers can thoroughly assess your peripheral vision. Digital Fundus Cameras can take pictures of your retina and conveniently store them for future reference. Corneal Pachymetry can measure your corneal thickness which helps us assess your glaucoma risk as well as your potential for LASIK refractive surgery. Electronic Medical Records makes it easier for us to share this information with other health care professionals when necessary.

Children's Eye Exams

If you, or your pediatrician, or your child's teachers have any doubt about your child's vision, we can examine them. We tailor the eye exam to your child's ability. For very young children we are looking to see if the eyes are straight and are tracking correctly. We can check and make sure their eyes are healthy. We can get a gross measurement of their prescription to make sure it falls within a normal range.

If your child does not know the alphabet yet, no problem. We have picture charts. For school age children we check to be sure that the eyes are working together and that they move together. Deficiencies in these areas can make it difficult for your child to read. We can check for near-sightedness, far-sightedness, astigmatism or lazy eye which are all conditions that can affect your child's ability to learn at school.

Did you know that now the State of Illinois requires a comprehensive eye exam before your child enters kindergarten? Don't worry about that! We will do the eye exams before they go into kindergarten and fill out the paperwork for you. Call our office any time for an appointment.

Eye Exams for Older Adults

As we age, the incidence of eye disease increases. Our comprehensive eye exam can detect the eye diseases that threaten your sight as you get older. We routinely check for glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and much more. With the latest technology in our office, it is now easier to detect these eye diseases before they damage your vision. Automated perimeters (which measure visual fields or your peripheral vision), digital fundus cameras (which can take pictures of the back of your eye), corneal pachymetry (which measures corneal thickness) and state-of-the-art tonometers which accurately measure your eye pressure are just some of the tools at your Dr.'s disposal which can help them diagnose and treat your condition.
